how can a dyslexia unit be set up for primary education?

Lizzette Wendroth: I have dyslexia and was fortunate enough to go to a school (in the 70's) that had set up a teacher and classroom for kids like myself. We were all mainstream kids but had some sort of learning disability. We would go to this teach at different times of the day and work on what ever we needed to (spelling, math, etc...). Biggest advise I can give you is get support from parents and teachers and don't call it "special education" or anything that creates a stigma. One of my biggest problems was confidence and feeling I wasn't normal. Make it fun and exciting and don't be afraid to try things that don't sound like normal education methods. I've learned more by acting out or doing something than just reading about it ,so combine the two. Find out if there are other schools doing the same thing and call and talk to the different teachers. What your doing is important and I wish you luck. ( I did a spell check on this and only had one word to correct)...Show m! ore
