how to network two computers together?

Sammy Tabatt: You can connect two computers via a crossover Ethernet cable. Basically these crossover cables look identical to RJ45 Ethernet Cables however each of the two connectors on the ends of the cable have different connection patterns on them apart from each other. One is in LAN - A format and one is in LAN - B format (basically the 8 small wires are hooked up differently at each end instead of being identical.).Next you setup one computer with a static IP of like 192.168.0.3 for example and the other computer with a static IP of like 192.168.0.4 (as long as the last number is nearby the other one it will work).----------------OR, if you have a router or a hub, then set up a network through that, by plugging bother machines into it using ethernet cables. OR, if you have a wireless router the same thing can be acheived with wireless cards in both machines. (or wire on one and wireless on the other, depending on what hardware you have)Once the machines are networked! , its just a matter of turning on File and Printer sharing. Once thats done, the machine not connected to the printer will be able to access it through the machine that is, just as if it was connected directly to it. There's a small amount of fussing to be done connecting an xp machine to Vista in a network. Googling the information will do more justice to what you are wanting to do than me trying to explain it all here....Show more

Wilmer Skidmore: How to connect your computers together if you don't have a networkIf you don't have any sort of network yet, then the simplest way to connect your computers is a wired network. Most modern computers already come with a network card already installed. If not you can purchase a network card for very little these days. The network socket on the back of your computer and network cable plug look like this. To connect just two computers all you need is a CAT5 "crossover" cable directly connected between your two computer's net! work sockets. If you are connecting more than two computers you! will need a network hub and normal CAT5 cables between each computer and the hub. Then you need to make your files accessible over the networkBefore you can synchronize files with AJC Directory Synchronize you need make some folders on the destination computer accessible by sharing folders over the network. Here check these sites out:http://www.wikihow.com/Connect-Two-Computershttp://compnetworking.about.com/od/homenetworking/......Show more

Leisa Brodnex: If all you want is for both laptop to be able to print then the easiest way would be... Get a Wi-Fi printer then both PC will have access to it. You won't need routers, cross over cable, etc. unless you want to setup a network so that the computers can share files between each other.
