Alphonso Brake: When you take your car in for regular scheduled maintenace at, say, 15,000 miles, they have a specific list of things they do and check. They DO NOT check everything on the car -- the entire engine, transmission, and other components. It's not like a general health check for your car. Therefore, it's very possible that you could have problems with components that were not part of the mainteance routine.
Ellis Cellar: It was good that you took it to a Toyota dealer, if that is how I read your answer. If they replaced parts, they are supposed to give you the old ones. the biggest racket is selling service that isn't needed when you go in for a simple maintenance procedure. I used to counsel a service manager, and he said there profit was in how much they could push onto the client when they brought the car in for an oil change, etc. They actually had pep talk meetings to teach the salespeople, repairmen, how to pitch the parts not actually needed.I! 'd take it back in, and take your receipt and find out what is going on. Do remember though, sometimes something else can go wrong after a tune-up, just in another part of the car. Keep records, go back as soon as you find a flaw, and always go to the Toyota dealer, not some other service person. Good luck....Show more
Hubert Jestes: Maintenance can mean allot of different opinions.Ask them what they checked they should have some sort of paper work on what they did.I have heard of this complaint before someone takes their care into a dealership for a maintenance check up and then it breaks down.I know things break down but your complaint is not a isolated incident. My first suggestion is to ask around who does good work word of mouth is the best advertisement. You will need to buy a book a Chilton's or Haynes. Here is a list of what I would check;Oil and filter change, fan belts check for cracks, replace distributor cap and rotor, replace spark plugs and wires, check ba! ttery and connection for cracks and corrosion,Once a year drai! n and replace your radiator fluid,Buy a OBD2 code reader plug it in and it will tell you if your electrical system is working properly.Inless you know about brakes have them professionally checked out.The OBD code reader you can purchase for around 100.00 there are more expensive readers but the cheaper ones do the same thing if you take the car in they will charge you 90.00 to do this test so you have paid for it the first time you use it and its really easy to use as long as you can read.this sounds like a lot but it really not that hard...Show more
Rhett Kaines: Read your owner's manual, especially the section dealing with scheduled maintenance. All engines last longest if you use synthetic oils, they simply lubricate best and clean the best, and don't form damaging engine deposits. Have your transmission fluid changed at the intervals shown in your manual. Also be aware of the timing belt change period. Do not contest it, just get it done to prevent engine dama! ge and expensive repairs. All cars need their brake fluid changed every 2-3 years to prevent expensive seal damage to master cylinder and calipers. Keep your engine bay clean as showroom with frequent shampooing at the local do-it-yourself car wash. Use only genuine Toyota coolant, hoses, belts and water pump. Brake noise may indicate that the calipers are not retracting normally due to high acids present in the brake fluid. When you get charged for any kind of work, talk to the service manager and have him/her explain exactly what they charged you for. Buy a Haynes or Robert Bentley repair manual for your car, and READ, READ, READ. Preventative maintenance is the key to long car life and knowledge is the key to avert rip-offs. Read your owner's manual 2-3 times every year. Good Luck!...Show more
Rubi Romo: Do a reputable dealer...most likely you local Toyota dealer. Do oil changes with these guys they normally do a 50 0r 100 point inspection. If they find somethi! ng wrong...it get expensive if you can't fix it yourself....I think the! going rate is $75 per hour plus 150% mark up on parts. I normally do that stuff myself but sometimes you just have to let the pros rob you.
Davina David: Well, for starters, make sure your oil is changed around every 3,000. make sure they top off your brake fluid, windshield fluid(optional),and if your not sure ask them to go over what work was done and get a thourogh report of what was done. also make sure power steering and other important fluids like coolant and all are topped off. ask for copies if you want to keep for maintenance records in case you go elsewhere so they know what was done.
