New Car Audio System. Should I get subs and an amp or hold off?

Ollie Desalvo: get a good head unit first its the brains of your whole system.make sure it has all the rca ins and sub outs for running external amps this matters.yes you do need an amplifier to run any sub woofer.and you can also use an AB external amplifier for running your speakers.and a class d external amplifier is best for running sub woofers. i would start with the alpine stereo with all the proper plug ins for external amps and build from there.the stereo can still run speakers from the internal amplifier from the stereo until you save the cash for external amps and speakers and subs at a later date.u tube has many how to videos on car audio.i would take a look at whatever your interested in knowing.a video is worth a thousand words.good luck with your system.your first answer is to busy bragging about his own system to give you an honest answer.use crutchfield.com or sonic electronix.com for any of your car audio needs. they have reps you can have a live chat wit! h if needed.in no way should you use the internal amplifier from your stereo to power any sub woofer,it has to have an external amplifier with the right RMS rating to run any subwoofer.listen to your first answer and you will cook your stereo.the internal amplifier in your stereo is only power full enough to run a regular or aftermarket speaker only.and should never be used to power a sub woofer....Show more

Arden Strachn: If you get a sub you will need an amp to power it since it is a high power speaker that can be ran right of your head unit and i would recomend getting a kenwood kfc-w3013 they hit extremely hard and give great quality sound and you can probably get them for arround 50 or 60 bucks and as for the amp i have 2 of those kenwoods running off a JL Audio G1700 amp and believe me that it sounds amazing its as loud as my friends $800 W7 and cleaner than it and its a $500 amp but i got it for 275 so if you know where to look you can get pretty good deals try! looking in sonicelectronix.com they have a great variety of s! tuff at great prices you should find something that you like there...Show more
